Table Makeover

I love a bargain.

I like thrift stores, garage sales and Craigslist.   During this recession, it seems like finding  bargain and saving money has become very “in.”    For me, it has always been “in.”   It’s how I was raised:  hand-me-downs and rummage sales, makeovers and making do, repairing and reusing.

The fact is, I’m thrilled when I find something for next to nothing.  It’s a high for me (or that could be from the paint fumes).  Either way, it makes me really happy.

In November, I spied this table at the Salvation Army thrift store.

It may have had a lamp mounted into the top at one time because there was a 1/2 inch hole in the middle.   The top of the table was in poor condition.  But I knew that the size and shape would work well next to a couch in my basement.   It was a bargain at four dollars.

025 With a dowel and some wood glue, I filled the hole in the center of the table.  Then I used my electric palm sander to smooth out the top.   An electric palm sander is a great tool.   Everyone needs one.

027 A can of primer, a can of paint, a can of varnish and this really handy nozzle to attach to the spray cans made this project simple, smooth and without finger cramps 030

I did struggle a bit at the hardware store when I looked at paint colors.  I  ultimately chose green because it matched a print I have framed in my basement .DSC_0449

And it’s a little unexpected.

That’s me, wild, crazy, unpredictable.    Just kidding, that’s pretty much the opposite of me.   Except maybe the crazy part.

DSC_0437I do love my new little table and I especially love that I was able to find such a bargain.
